EdgeDeflector

EdgeDeflector does not work in current versions of Windows 10 and 11. It’s discontinued because Microsoft sabotaged how EdgeDeflector worked.

Manual setup steps

Please follow these steps to complete your installation of EdgeDeflector. (Sorry, Windows refuses to let this be automated during the installation!)

  1. Open the Windows Settings app.
  2. Go to Apps: Default apps.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click Choose default apps by protocol.
  4. Locate MICROSOFT-EDGE in the list and click on the program icon to the right of it.
  5. Select EdgeDeflector from the list. Confirm the change if asked to.

You’re done! EdgeDeflector should now intercept links that try to force-open in Microsoft Edge and open them using your default web browser instead. You can change your default web browser from the Windows Settings app: Apps: Default apps: Web browser.

Thank you for installing!

You’re done! We’ve detected that this page opened in a web browser other than Microsoft Edge. This means EdgeDeflector was successfully installed and configured! This page contains additional setup instructions when it’s opened in Microsoft Edge.

Double-check that it’s working

  1. Copy the following test link:
  2. Press the Windows key + R.
  3. Press the Control key + V to paste the test link.
  4. Press the Enter key.

The link should open in your default web browser. Double-check your default web browser setting in the Windows Settings app: Apps: Default apps if the links opens in an unexpected program.
